Onboarding and Initial Setup

Onboarding and Initial Setup

The Onboarding Wizard runs automatically the first time a Workspace Admin opens E-SignSeal after installation. It guides you through the four configuration steps required before your team can send their first contract. This page documents each step in detail and explains the settings you establish during setup.

Who sees the wizard

Only Workspace Admins (Jira Administrators on your site) see and complete the onboarding wizard. Other users see a "Setup in progress" placeholder until an admin finishes the wizard.

Starting the wizard

  1. Select E-SignSeal in the Jira top navigation bar.

  2. If this is the first time any admin has opened the app after installation, the wizard launches automatically.

  3. If you need to re-run the wizard (for example, after a workspace reset), navigate to Settings and select Re-run onboarding from the General tab.

Step 1 — Welcome

The Welcome step provides a brief overview of E-SignSeal's capabilities and shows the four-step wizard progress tracker. No input is required. Select Get started to proceed.

Step 2 — Enable projects

The Projects step controls which Jira projects E-SignSeal is active in. Only issues from enabled projects can be linked to contracts.

  1. The step lists all Jira projects your account has access to.

  2. Toggle the switch next to each project you want to enable.

  3. You can enable as many projects as needed. You can change this list later in Settings → Projects.

Recommendation: Start with the one or two projects where your highest-volume contract work happens. Enable additional projects after your team is comfortable with the workflow.

Select Next to proceed.

Step 3 — Assign roles

The Permissions step is where you assign the Template Manager and Sender roles to specific users or Jira groups.

Template Manager

Assign this role to the people responsible for authoring and maintaining contract templates. In most organizations, this is 1–3 people from legal, procurement, or operations.

  1. Select Add users or groups under Template Manager.

  2. Search by Jira user name or group name.

  3. Select the user or group.

Sender

Assign this role to everyone who needs to send contracts. This is typically your sales operations, account management, or HR teams. You can use a Jira group (for example, jira-users-contracts) to grant the role in bulk.

  1. Select Add users or groups under Sender.

  2. Search and select users or groups.

Workspace Admins already have all permissions and do not need to be added to either role.

Select Next to proceed.

Step 4 — Done

The final step confirms your configuration is complete. It shows a summary:

  • Projects enabled: count and names

  • Template Managers: users / groups assigned

  • Senders: users / groups assigned

Select Go to Dashboard to complete the wizard and open the app. The E-SignSeal Dashboard loads — the app is now ready for your team.

Post-setup checklist

After completing the wizard, we recommend these additional configuration steps:

  1. Create your first template — navigate to Templates and build your most-used agreement type. Publish it so Senders can use it immediately.

  2. Review General settings — set your organization's default expiry window in Settings → General.

  3. Communicate to your team — notify Template Managers and Senders that the app is ready. Share the Your First Contract in 5 Minutes guide with first-time users.

Modifying settings after onboarding

Every setting configured in the wizard is adjustable later in the Settings area:

  • Projects — Settings → Projects tab

  • Permissions — Settings → Permissions tab

  • General settings — Settings → General tab
