Your First Contract in 5 Minutes

Your First Contract in 5 Minutes

This walkthrough takes you from a blank slate to a sent contract end-to-end. You will create a simple Non-Disclosure Agreement template, send it as a contract linked to a Jira issue, and see what your signer receives.

What you need

  • E-SignSeal installed and at least one Jira project enabled

  • The Template Manager and Sender roles (or Workspace Admin)

  • At least one other Jira user to act as signer

  • A Jira issue to link the contract to (any existing issue works)

Step 1 — Create a template (2 minutes)

  1. In E-SignSeal, select Templates in the sidebar.

  2. Select New template.

  3. In the Name field, type Mutual NDA — Standard.

  4. In the rich-text editor, type your NDA body. To insert the linked issue's project name automatically, place the cursor where you want it and select Project Name from the Jira Fields panel on the right.

  5. Add a signature block at the bottom. Type Signed by: on a new line, press Enter, then insert the Assignee field as the counter-party placeholder.

  6. Select Save draft.

Your template is saved as a Draft — it is visible only to Template Managers and Workspace Admins until published.

Step 2 — Publish the template (30 seconds)

  1. With the template open, select Publish.

  2. The Readiness Checklist modal appears. Confirm all checklist items are green (template has a name, at least one page of content, and no broken field references).

  3. Select Publish template.

The template status changes from Draft to Published and is now available to Senders.

Step 3 — Send a contract (2 minutes)

  1. Select Contracts in the sidebar, then New contract.

  2. Step 1 — Template + issue:

    • Under Choose a template, select Mutual NDA — Standard.

    • Under Link to Jira issue, search for your issue (for example, PROJ-42 — Vendor Onboarding) and select it.

    • Select Next.

  3. Step 2 — Signers + settings:

    • Under Add signers, search for a Jira user (for example, alex.rivera@yourcompany.com) and select them.

    • Set Contract title to Mutual NDA — PROJ-42.

    • Leave Expiry at the default (30 days) and Reminders on.

    • Select Next.

  4. Step 3 — Review + send:

    • Review the contract summary. Confirm the template, linked issue, signer list, and expiry look correct.

    • Select Send contract.

    • Confirm in the modal by selecting Send.

E-SignSeal sends Alex a Jira notification and an email with a signing link. The contract status moves to In progress on the Contracts list.

What your signer sees

Alex receives a Jira notification (and an email) with the subject "You have been invited to sign: Mutual NDA — PROJ-42." Selecting the link opens the signing session directly in their browser. They will:

  1. Review the contract document

  2. Enter the 6-digit OTP sent to their Jira email

  3. Scroll to the bottom and accept the consent checkbox

  4. Draw or type their signature

  5. Submit — and see a confirmation screen

Once Alex submits, E-SignSeal immediately:

  • Marks the contract as Completed

  • Generates the sealed PDF with the embedded signature and audit certificate

  • Attaches the PDF to issue PROJ-42 automatically
