Automatic Rollup & Confidence

Automatic Rollup & Confidence

The number on an Objective is only worth anything if it's right when leadership looks. In OKR Tracker, an Objective's progress, status, and confidence are not typed in — they are rolled up from its Key Results and recalculated automatically every time a Key Result changes. Update the work; the Objective updates itself.

The Objective's Overall Progress % is a weighted average of its Key Results' progress. Each Key Result's own progress comes from current versus target, or from its linked delivery issues — so a Key Result linked to 10 delivery issues with 8 done contributes 80% to the average.

The recalculation runs automatically whenever a Key Result changes — on edits, on linked-issue transitions, and on every check-in. It works by reacting to the issue update, fetching the Objective's sibling Key Results through its realizes links, computing the weighted average, and writing the result back to the Objective. You never reconcile the number by hand.

Rollup weights are admin-configurable, so a flagship Key Result can carry more of the Objective than a minor one. See Scoring Rules and Thresholds.

Status rollup

The Objective's OKR Status is derived from its Key Results, not set manually:

  • Any Key Result Red or Off Track → the Objective goes At Risk. One result in trouble surfaces immediately, instead of hiding behind a healthy average.
  • All Key Results complete → the Objective goes Completed.
  • Otherwise the Objective tracks On Track (or Not Started before work begins).

The exact thresholds that map progress to On Track / At Risk / Off Track are admin-configurable — see Scoring Rules and Thresholds.

Confidence (Green / Yellow / Red)

Progress tells you where you are; confidence tells you whether the owner believes you'll get there. Each Key Result carries a confidence of Green, Yellow, or Red, and that confidence rolls up to the Objective too — so a set of results that's numerically on pace but flagged Yellow doesn't read as falsely safe at the top.

Built to stay fast

The rollup is designed to stay fast at 10,000+ objectives through caching, so recalculation on every Key Result change doesn't slow your instance down — the Objective is current the moment you look at it.

See it over time

Every recalculation is captured, so you can watch a Key Result's trajectory and an Objective's history rather than just today's snapshot. See Check-In History and Progress Trend.
